Setting up Microsoft Authenticator

Modified on Thu, 30 Nov, 2023 at 11:56 AM

Hello to All Staff from IT!

As some of you have already noticed, our district’s Multi-Factor Authentication is slowly being updated and pushed out to all staff members. This update requires the installation of the official Microsoft Authenticator application. There is no option to bypass this and no exclusions can be made. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is a mandatory update pushed through by Microsoft in accordance with network security compliance.

For anyone experiencing difficulty in following the automated instructions, we have provided our own below. If you need further assistance please submit a ticket and a member of IT will be in touch to walk you through this process.

  1. When attempting to login, you will see the following message:

  2. Click “Next” and you will be prompted to “Set up your account”. Click “Next” on this when prompted as well.

  3. You will be prompted to “Scan the QR code”. For this you will need to install the Microsoft Authenticator application on your phone. You can do this by going to either the Google Play Store (if you have an Android device) or the App Store (if you have an Apple device). Search for “Microsoft Authenticator” and locate and install the application that has this icon:

    • Please note there are other applications that will look similar. To confirm you have installed the correct application, verify that the name “Microsoft Corporation” is shown below.

  4. When the application is installed, open it and select “Scan a QR code” when the option becomes available. You may have to click the '+' icon in the upper right-hand corner to add a 'Work or school account' for this to appear.

    • You must 'Allow' the application to take pictures and record video when prompted.

  5. Once you have scanned the QR code you should receive a notification through the application requesting sign-in. All you have to do is 'Approve'.
